LEARNING TO FORGIVE MYSELF

Learning to forgive myself

The stranger I see with my eyes is I

This morning,
I looked into the mirror and I saw a stranger,
Someone who’s appearance to me was unfamiliar,
Her big soulful eyes drew my attention,
The scars in her soul reflected rejection,
Her broken smile warned of danger,
I looked into the mirror and I saw a stranger.

Could she be me?
Is it I in that mirror that I see?
The me I know is not so cold,
The spirit within me is not that old,
To the devil my soul I have not sold,
She can’t be me!
I’m looking in the mirror and I see a stranger!

How did I get so angry?
For my fellow men’s blood I am thirsty,
Yes, for his tears and pain I am hungry,
For deep within me I plot revenge,
I hope that the guilt will eat away your flesh,
Do remind me of how I got so angry.

A stranger is not what I see,
Strange is the way I feel,
For anger sees what it wants to,
Negativity it results in,
This anger radiating through my flesh I must kill,
My heart back to flesh from stone I must turn,
Forgiveness and love I must once more learn,
A stranger is not what I see,
Strange is the way I feel.

My heart back to flesh from stone I must turn,
Forgiveness and love I must once more learn,
The stranger I see with my eyes is I.
